2023 Grand American Residential Design Award Winning Historic Renovation
The house and original barn sit on 2.5 acres and the working well was still inside the house. After the new owner sifted through many items left inside the home, carefully selecting items to save, she contacted our firm to help guide her through a renovation that would ultimately touch every inch of the house and property.
The original house was a story and a half with 5 rooms: 3 bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. Our priority from the beginning was to preserve as many original details and charm as possible while introducing modern updates and fresh finishes.
After significant structural additions were made in the crawl space to arrest the collapse of some original materials, a full implementation of duct work for central heating and air conditioning, replacement of the roof and most windows, the exterior was painted with Benjamin's Moore's China White.
Indoors, the well was unfortunately covered to maximize space and the well cover was relocated to the backyard. Original shiplap walls and ceilings were uncovered and/or repaired in some places and painted. Poor quality windows were replaced with true simulated divided lite windows except for original windows still in view on the front porch. The original wood flooring in the kitchen, living, and dining rooms was sanded, restored, and refinished. The current owner's suite was originally a sitting parlor with a fireplace which was restored and is now the charming centerpiece of the bedroom.
After some creative space planning, we created a European style dressing room which includes a custom vanity and wall of closet storage leading into a wet room holding the shower, freestanding tub, and toilet.
